wait, what was i doing?
RIGHT. vacation. all me-made. i really could have used some of ginger’s bathroom-selfie stamina on this one, because my minion totally flaked.
but she did do her part on the me-made front, sporting a very classy 1940s simplicity top with her slammin’ blue cufflinks.
so instead let me charm you with some vacation photos from our day trip to monet’s gardens at giverny.
ooo, la la!
speaking of “la! la!” there is an amusing story here. we were at giverny with at least two buses of british tourists and at least two field trips of french schoolchildren. one of the groups was maybe 5 or 6 years old and they were ADORABLE. they ran around the garden, totally charmed by everything, and particularly captivated by the enormous catfish in the water garden. “regarde!! les poissons!! la! la! la!” they shouted. “ils sont HUGE!!”
for the remainder of our trip this became our catchphrase: “regarde les poissons!!”
by the time we got to montmartre on saturday afternoon (i even climbed the stairs, since the funicular was so overcrowded), it was a hot 85 degrees and we were all walked and shopped out, not to mention so stuffed with food that i literally was unable to eat another bite. it was a relief to return to this:
and i found these waiting for me in a small plot near the stream bed, which i am (slowly) trying to expand into a large plot of blueberries, blackberries, lupines and strawberries.
i grew these from seed, so i am a bit obnoxiously proud of myself.
i had planned on sharing so many things as i wrote this post in my head, about a weird mom-related bit of grief i had had last week, or how crazy into cleaning i’ve been lately. (seriously, i actually put away a bike that had been in my living room for three years, not to mention hung and organized a year’s worth of framed photographs) maybe a little musing on the odd lag i sometimes get as spring fades into summer, always much more quickly than you had planned, and how annoying it is that it hasn’t stopped raining here. mostly i’ve been reminded of a conversation i had with clio over dinner a few weeks ago, in which i confessed that i wasn’t sure how much sewing i’d be able to get done, even though i have a beautiful pair of rite of spring shorts crying out for construction – and clio’s very sage answer: “welcome to homeownership in the summer.”
so: things i hope to share soon include a full post on my awesome drape drape t-shirt, a finished copelia cardigan and knit skirt ensemble, and – dare i hope? – that pair of rite of spring shorts. i honestly do not know where i might go from there! summer is nigh and it is full of possibilities.
